Puerto Galera, situated in Mindoro is known for its exceptionally beautiful, relaxing little white sand beaches, some surrounded with coral reefs abundantly filled with rich and diffent kinds of marine life, and best diving spots. It has long been regarded by University of the Philippines's geologists, botanists, and students as an ideal place for studying the ecostructure of plants, animals, and micro-organisms in almost agitated natural conditions.
The Marine Biological station was set up in 1934. And 40 years later, the United Nations Man & Biosphere Program International openly avowed Puerto Galera a nature center and a marine sanctuary. However, its outstanding beaches were eventually ascertained by people outside the country and gradually became one of the most visited tourist destination in the Philippines.
Puerto Galera is about 4-5 hours away from Manila. It is a long stretch of beaches located on the northwestern part of Mindoro Island. Puerto Galera is composed of Coco Beach, White Beach, Sabang Beach, Big & Small Lalaguna & Tamaraw Beach. Puerto Galera is serving Filipinos & foreigners a place to relax and feel the gift of nature.
Puerta Galera is also a good place for diving which is mostly done by local banca from Sabang Beach. There are also some better dive sites found near Escarceo Point. A rich and widespread artificial reef program has started just offshore Sabang Beach which resulted in scuttling several wrecks.
Adjacent to this, you can go to Medio Island and Green Island which offer clear quiet waters with a phenomenal amount of marine life. Tourism grows extremely fast in Puerto Galera, mainly because it's not too far from Manila, very accessibile, and most of all it's long line of splendid white sand beaches and its wide diversity of flora and fauna. A holiday vacation to the wonderful place of Puerto Galera is something all people in the world should do once in their lifetime.
