Tourism
Moalboal has developed a tourism industry for many years based on diving and beaches. The municipality had two beautiful white sand beaches on the western shore of Cebu Island, but Panagsama Beach in Basdiot was washed away during a typhoon in 70's but there are still some excellent dive spots remained. The other one is Basdako Beach ('Basdako' means Big Sand), is located in Saavedra. Interestingly enough, 'Basdiot' where Panagsama Beach is located means Little Sand.
Though the beach in Panagsama is nearly gone, cottages and resorts mark the shoreline, mostly providing tourists who come to Moalboal to scuba dive and engage in watersports.
Basdako Beach used to be a quieter beach but it has been recently developed and now has a number of resorts and several cottages where tourists and local visitors can stay.
Tourists who want to stay in Moalboal can easily take a taxi from Cebu International airport. It will cost more or less 2000 pesos. Other ways to get to Moalboal would be to take a jeepney or taxi to the South Bus Terminal or Citilink and take a bus or van to Moalboal for 2-3 hours.
In Moalboal tourists mostly stay at Panagsama Beach as there are more accommodation in Panagsama compared in Basdako. From the marketplace, you can take a tri-cycle to Pasagsama beach. Drivers usually drop you off at the main square you can find a bungalow hotel, Eve’s kiosk, and Nelsons Dive Shop. You can safely leave your baggage there so you can look for your accommodation.
Some of your best diving in the world can be experienced in Moalboal, especially once you have done a dive at Pescador Island.
Entertainment is laid back - disco, billiards, beer drinking, etc. There are popular bars at the moment where you can have a beer for less than 50 Cent US there.
Other than diving and snorkeling, Planet Action Adventure can take you to other adventures like mountain climbing, river climbing, horse back riding or mountain biking.
